As promised we’ve built upon the new look for gig listings by adding the ability for any logged in user to upload photos.  For example, if you’ve played CMJ before you can now head over to the gig listing for CMJ 2009 and add photos of your band’s performance.

You’ll also notice a new rating on each gig listing called the “Pick-O-Meter.”  This will display the “pickiness” of each promoter.  Promoters that are pickier about who they select will have a higher rating on the pick-o-meter.

How we determine the Pick-O-Meter rating for a listing.

We calculate a pick-o-meter rating for a listing based on that event’s past activity (which is why some events don’t have a pick-o-meter rating).  Lets say a promoter opens a listing each year for a festival.  To calculate the pick-o-meter rating for this year’s festival, we’ll look at the number of selections the promoter made for the festival last year and divide it by the total number of submissions they received.  This will tell us the percentage of submissions that were selected.  We take that percentage and rank it against every other gig listing in the same category (gig categories are: Live Gigs, Competitions/Contests, A&R/Publicity/Licensing).  Their ranking against other gigs in their category is what determines their pick-o-meter rating.  So gigs that select a lower percentage of their submissions compared to other gigs of the same type will have a higher pick-o-meter rating and vice versa.

We’re not done improving gig listings just yet.  Take this quick survey to let us know what additional information you’d like to see about gigs before submitting.

There’s still more to come over the next few weeks so stay tuned.

Yeah, this is awesom. I love that Sonicbids is constantly re-evaluating and improving the process. There are not many companies/organizations that are truly involved and eager to assist artists such as myself, as well as venues looking for specific quality acts.

Wow! I like both of these features. You really seem to be keeping an ear out for improvements that really make a difference in the way musicians have to think about their careers. I especially like the pick-o-meter. I usually do a lot of homework about whether my submissions will be a good fit or whether the “gig” is consistent with my own objectives. This is now additional criteria that will help me make the best decisions when I spend my education/marketing dollars.

Additional help filtering for good fits and matches for our group is always appreciated. Both features are great. The more ways to specifically get the exacts / parameters of gigs, venues, festivals, listings of what we are looking for saves time, money, energy, frustration.

Thanks so much.

This is really great stuff – congratulations to Sonicbids for listening and for staying on top of things. Many others would just sit back and coast with a site that is already as good as this one is.

As a performer and an event organizer I can see these features being super beneficial to everyone involved.

The photo add idea is good. It provides an opportunity for additional publicity and that’s always a good thing! The pick-o-meter is better than nothing but it is a weak attempt to provide what is needed, which is the number of entries and who was selected for every opportunity! This information would give us the ability to make sure an opportunity is real or not and by knowing who was selected we could determine what type of genres they really prefer. Many of the opportunities name several genres (or just say all genres) then through hard work (because that info is usually not attainable) we learn they picked artists from only one genre or we find the selections were from the local market! That is fine, they just need to be honest with us so we can pursue the opportunities that we have a fair shot at getting!
Thank you.

LOVE the idea of adding photos. We think it’s a great way to get a feel for the stage, lighting, and environment, especially if you are coming from out of state and cannot check out the space before hand. It’s far more accurate than reading the venue’s descriptions alone.

I was a hater. A big ol’ Sonicbids hater. I quit Sonicbids a while back…I even threw money away on Taxi (hear ye musicians DO NOT make the Taxi mistake). I’m back with my band GIFTSHOP and have been getting gigs and making connections through this site. Sonicbids is invaluable..thankfully the price is always right.

We’ll be keeping an eye on this feature – interesting concept that the more a gig give out the acceptance letters the lower its pick-rating. Makes sense but may be mistaken for a quality or popularity rating.

Yea, I thought it was a rating. Like 5 stars or something. Glad to know that I was mistaken LOL

Fantastic work guys. I am growing more and more confident that Sonicbids is good for my band and many other independent bands across North America. It’s particularly encouraging for us here in the Pacific Northwest since so many opportunities are East Coast related.
Keep up the good work.

Great stuff! Love the improvements done thus far. The reviews are really great, and pick-o-meter really helps determine the quality events.

Keep up the great work! Your support is unmatched in the industry. You are headed for the industry standard, no doubt!
